There are often facial images that cannot be compared because the two faces are not looking in the same direction, or because the face in one picture is looking down and the other looking up. To solve this problem we use 3D technology that allows us to rotate both images to the point where they are at exactly the same angle. In order to do this, however, we have to mark the faces in 22 locations, apply what we call a wireframe to the faces, and ensure that we have an accurate representation of the face to do the comparisons.
The Visual Face 3D Compare Service does all the work for you. You can either send the pictures to us (please be sure to insure them) or you can scan them and download them right to our server. When you are scanning the images we ask that you use at least 300 dpi. If the face is a small part of a large picture, then use as large a dpi as possible. If you don’t get it right the first time, don’t worry, we’ll take you through the process to make sure we get the best image to compare.
Once we have the two images ready for comparison, we will do the comparison and send you a video of the comparison. The video will include all the things we do to go from 2D to 3D to normalize the images. The video will be sent to you electronically. Optionally, we and we will send a copy via a CD that you can use on your DVD player. There will be a small $5.00 charge for this service – mostly for the cost of shipping.
You will also receive our analysis of the images we are comparing and the factors that lead us to conclude whether or not it’s the same person. The entire process should take about 3-5 business days.
